LARK, or Local Arts and Recreation Kildare, as it’s more formally known, has been around since 2004, organising musicals, pageants and general mayhem. For the last 14 years, our aim has been simple: to encourage adults and children to get involved in community arts, principally in musicals. We have produced over 13 shows, which feature large casts of all ages and all ranges of experience. It’s not unusual to have more than 200 people involved in a LARK show.
We aim for the highest possible standards in production values, to give audiences, cast and backstage crew the best possible experience. Previous productions include “Peter Pan”, “Oliver!”, “The King & I”, “Aladdin the pantomime”, “Hairspray” and “The Sound Of Music”.
Over the years, we have also organised art exhibitions, pageants and taken part in the Kildare Derby Festival Parade. The CMWS Hall in Kildare is our preferred venue but we have also toured productions to The Moat in Naas and The Riverbank in Newbridge.
Our goal is to have a good time by getting involved in community productions thereby learning new skills, encouraging teamwork and self-esteem, while…..having a good time. We’re currently in the middle of rehearsals for our latest production “Into The Woods”. While the cast is already in place, there are plenty of opportunities for getting involved back stage or in front of house.
If you’re the slightest bit interested, give us a shout. Previous experience is not necessary. In my case it was a hindrance. We’re a great bunch of people and it’s great craic. Go for it! If that’s not your cup of tea, the why not come to the show? Tickets will soon be on sale for performances from Tuesday the 20th of March to Saturday the 24th. See you there!
